The Baudelaire children were told by their parents to go to Briny Beach, one of their favorite places to go with each other. But soon after while enjoying their time there the children were surprised by a visitor, the town's banker, Mr.Poe.He was there to tell them that their parents have perished in a terrible fire and that their house is destroyed . They would have to move in with a relative.

The Baudelaire children meet Count Olaf and have to endure all the terrible people, circumstances and chores that follow after moving in with him. He wants the Baudelaire fortune and is going to plan a theater play to marry Violet, the oldest out of the children, so he can inherit all the money.

Violet tries to think of all the ways that she could get herself out of this situation. Her and Count Olaf finish saying their I do's and then they sign the marriage certificate. Count Olaf's face lights up with joy and he announces to the crowd that him and Violet are legally married and that no one can stop him from talking all of the Baudelaire fortune.
