- Betty say's "you drank blood Abby!" Abby threatens her life if she ever repeats that again. She does this in front of all the girls and scares them.

- Parris insist on not jumping to witchcraft. He tries to prove he is certain there is no unnatural cause for Betty's illness. He knows he would lose the towns favor if this is found under his roof.
- Proctor's Overdue Confession

-  Parris quickly threatens Tituba if she doesn’t confess when Abby accuses her. He only does this to stay on the good side of the community for his reputation because he knows Abby has a strong word.
