- Hello, our union would like to hold elections to appoint a shop steward to represent our members.

- The majority representational Union will approach the employer to obtain permission to elect a shop steward. Section 14 of the LRA provides guidelines on the number of shop stewards that may be elected.

- The shop steward liases between the union and its members. It reports back to the members on all union matters and plans and reports all work related issues facing the members to the union.
- The union and companies management communicate and negotiate through the shopsteward as the shop steward is the visual representation of the union inside the workplace.
- Represent union members during disciplinary / grievance proceedings if requested. Should an employee find themselves in a disciplinary proceeding they may request the shop steward to represent them.
- Remember to answer truthfully and remain calm. I will be here every step of the way and we will get through this.
