I need to take him to a therapist. This is getting out of hand
8!
This story is about a boy who was afraid of buttons. He developed this fear after knocking over a jar of buttons during a project in kindergarten. After knocking over this jar his classmates started calling him "button boy" this would leave a lasting mark on him.
How much distress would you say you are in right now on a scale of 0-8?
This fear was ridiculous. It got to the point when he couldn't hug his mom if she had buttons on.
Now imagine that you are holding a bunch of small plastic denim buttons.
Nor could he put on his school uniform because it had buttons on it. This problem became bigger and bigger until his mom started searching for help.
Welcome back to weird fears and phobias!
His mom came across a program at Florida International University that dealt with children's anxieties and phobias. In that program, they tried multiple forms of therapy to deal with the fear. The first one involved touching more and more buttons until he felt comfortable. This did not work.
Then, they tried a new technique in which they would have button boy imagine that he was holding buttons or that buttons were falling on him. This technique seemed to work much better. Also, his fear was starting to decrease.
After his experiences, when the button boy grew up he started a talk show about his experiences and other people's weird phobias and lived happily ever after.
