Mary was very unpset and angered by this, because she was pregnant with his child, so she hit him in the head with a leg of lamb, and killed him, and the police ended up eating the murder weapon without realizing it.
Rainsford ended up on Shiptrap Island after he fell off of his yaht. He met General Zarhoff, who hunts people on his private island. Rainsford had to hide from Zarhoff for three days to be able to leave the island, and Rainsford killed Zarhoff.
