- Slaves were forced to work in field for little to no money. If they refused to do what they were told to do, they would get punished. A common punishment was getting whipped.
- "Abolish slavery tomorrow, and not a sentence or syllable of the Constitution need be altered. It was purposely so framed as to give no claim, no sanction to the claim, of property in man. If in its origin slavery had any relation to the government, it was only as the scaffolding to the magnificent structure, to be removed as soon as the building was completed.
- Many slaves had to work in extreme heats and poor weather conditions. Slaves hated being bossed around.
- I am in earnest - I will not equivocate - I will not excuse - I will not retreat a single inch - and I will be heard!
- A woman by the name Harriet Tubman, who was a slave, and others made an "Underground Railroad" to help slaves escape slavery.
- The 13th Amendment will be approved!
- Frederick Douglass was a man who escaped slavery and gave many speeches and public talks encouraging people to end and abolish slavery.
- William Lloyd Garrison was an American Abolitionist and journalist who created the newspaper, The Liberator, which helped people to end slavery and begin an Abolitionist campaign.
- On January 32, 1865, the 13th Amendment was passed by U.S. Congress which ended slavery.
