The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street Theme: Mankind its is own worst enemy.
One major theme of The Monsters are Due on Maple Street is that Mankind is its own worst enemy. One example that's supports this theme is when Charlie shot Pete Van Horn and Charlie became Pete's worst enemy and the residents as well. This shows that the residents violently turned on Charlie out of hate. Another example is when Charlie turned the blame on Tommy by telling the residents that Tommy is the monster. This also shows how fast Charlie is to turn on one another and how fast the residents believe lies. Another piece of evidence that supports my claim is when Les Goodman's car started up on it's own and everyone converged up on Les. This explains how the residents were so quick to judge and assume Les was the monster instead of asking questions. The 4th and final evidence is when all the residents cars, homes, lights, etc started going crazy and they just started to violently try and hurt each other instead of of noticing that all the residents belongings started to go crazy. This finally shows how dumb and blind people are when there scared or distraced with an overwhelming feeling
