The soil has been getting less fertile day by day though I add fertilizers to it every month in a large quantity. Let me add more fertilizers and irrigate them again
Days passed and Timothy's land became less fertile day by day so he decided to talk with the Alfie (A well known farmer in his town).
But what is Agriculture pollution??
My crops are not growing well even though I added a lot of fertilizers and irrigated them very well.
Alfie checked the soil and informed Timothy that due to agriculture pollution his crops were not growing well.
Excessive amounts of fertilizer leads to the release of harmful greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and the eutrophication of our waterways.
Eutrophication occurs when the water body becomes overly enriched with nutrients. Various factors like excessive use of fertilizers, untreated sewage, usage of detergents containing phosphorous and industrial discharge of waste may contribute to eutrophication.
Most irrigation waters contain some salts. After irrigation, the water added to the soil is used by the crop or evaporates directly from the moist soil. The salt, however, is left behind in the soil. If not removed, it accumulates in the soil; this process is called salinization. It is also harmful for the soil.
Is there any thing I can do to enrich my soil?
There's a lot that can be done. Use more manure instead of fertilizers. Also irrigate plant according to their need from time to time. It is important to dispose of solid waste properly by treated it before it’s released into the environment. Acidic and alkaline waste, for example, can be neutralized before they are disposed of to avoid soil contamination.
