- in the 1800s, the united states was a new country that was growing country in 1803 The US bought The Louisana territory from France for 15 million dollars This was called the Louisana purchase it was doubled the size of the US some Americans thought that the Louisana land was a part of their land. Spain became angry because they did not wanna give up any land it claimed to the USA. it also made some Americans angry because they wanted as much land as possible now that the USA owned the Louisana territory thousands of American families moved into the Louisiana territory in the early 1800s neither country wanted to go to war over the disputed territory they declared the land netural ground between 1806 and 1819 no nation governed.
