“How am I going to not get in trouble!” Ghost whispers angrily as he sits on the bench crunching and spitting sunflower seeds.
“Maybe I should just quit the team,” Ghost sighs as he walks around the track. “I didn’t want to join in the first place anyway.”
Ghost struggles to not get into trouble at school because he is on the track team. Ghost tries to evolve from his past life after what happened with his dad.

“What the hell Brandon!!” Ghost thinks as he sits in the principals office waiting for detention.
As he starts talking to the principal about the fight, Ghost thinks, “Oh no, coach is going to be mad.”
Character vs. Character (External)
Ghost is always getting annoyed that Brandon is always bantering him. He fights with him all the time like the day at the cafeteria when things got physical.

“Why can’t I just live somewhere else?” Ghost thinks to himself as he sits on the bench drinking water.
Ghost vs. his neighborhood (External)
“Maybe he is better,” Ghost says to himself as he looks downward to the ground.
Brandon banters Ghost about how he lives in a poor environment. Lu on the track team also figures this out and starts acting churlish to Ghost.
