Hi! My name is Aysha Ghazi, and I'm from the 7A . Today, I'm going to interview a few people about Roman society and how they used to live.
Roman's Men
Tell me about the way guys in Rome live.
Men used to govern their families, and they traced their ancestry back to male forefathers. They dubbed the elderly man paterfamilias. As a result, the father has complete control over his family.
Roman's Women
What about the women of Rome?
In comparison to other societies, such as Greece, we enjoyed more freedom. We could own our own homes and engage in social activities. Our fundamental regulation is that we must bear and raise children, and we are not allowed to vote or work in government.
Roman's Riches
It must be wonderful to be a wealthy man in Rome!
Yes, absolutely! We own numerous farms and employ a large number of poor free laborers and slaves! Agriculture was the source of our funds. We lived in villas because we were considered upper-class members of society.
Roman's poor people
What about low-income households?
We are impoverished, but we are free! We worked as tenants in farms for upper-class people, or at businesses and construction sites. We lived in small apartments and were always sick and in danger.
Roman's Slaves
Being a slave must be quite difficult!
40 percent of Rome's population was enslaved as a result of conflicts! We were sold as properties with no rights! Our children were likewise treated as slaves, but some of them fared better working in homes or assisting their masters.
