Hello there!  I am Lieutenant Jackson. I am a military leader, deployed at Rock Island by the government to explore the fascinating rocks on the island. There are three types of rocks called igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks. Let's explore one by one.
If the lava cools quickly, it forms rocks with small crystals. If the magma is trapped underground, it cools down much slower and forms rocks with large crystals. This happens because when the rock cools, the particles in it are free to move, creating bonds between the particles.
First, let's see how igneous rocks form. Igneous rocks forms when magma travels to the earth's surface through volcanoes from the crust. When magma reaches the surface, it becomes lava and when the lava cools down, it becomes igneous rocks.
Rocks on the earth's surface is opened to being  weathered. This is a combination of chemical weathering, such as acid rain and physical weathering such as rain, waves and wind. When weathering happens, the rocks break and gets carried by water. The rocks is then beaten in the current of the water and turns into sediment.
Over a long period of time, the layers of sediment builds up and crush the bottom layers. This pressure compacts the grains of sediment together which forms...
Sedimentary Rocks!
Exactly! Sedimentary rocks may also contain fossils in them when dead creatures or plants get trapped in the layers of sediment.
Metamorphic rocks form when rocks, such as igneous and sedimentary rocks are exposed to the high temperatures in the earth's crust. The heat and pressure then changes sedimentary and igneous rocks into metamorphic rocks.
