My name is Deborah Sampson a girl who wanted to help out in the war but I couldn't because I was a girl. In the spring of 1782 I had an idea. My idea was to join the war as a solider and to hide my identity, I would cut off all My hair and start dressing like a boy. Keeping my identity a secret was hard but I knew I could get past the other people.

I joined the fourth Massachusetts regiment and set out on a reconnaissance mission and on one June day I led a group of thirty infantry men on a raid against the Tories it was a difficult task my heart pounding as I felt all the weight of the thirty men's lives on my shoulders. We managed to capture fifteen men in victory but if my identity were to be revealed my fate would be sealed.

In the end I remained to keep my secret for over two years. I was relieved and sad. Going home I felt a sense of fulfillment that I had never known. I would love for my story to inspire people to never give up in what you believe in and shatter the barriers that seek to hold you back.
