- In the chloroplast, photosynthesis uses sunlight + CO₂ + H₂O → glucose (C₆H₁₂O₆) + O₂. In the mitochondria, cellular respiration uses glucose + O₂ → ATP + CO₂ + H₂O. The products of photosynthesis become the reactants of respiration, forming a cycle (chloroplast → mitochondria → back). This energy flow is essential because it gives all cells the ATP they need to stay alive.
