King Midas

This panel shows the setting. King Midas sits in a room filled with gold and valuables. There is also a light above him which will be important later.
King Midas hears the door creak open and a shadow falls over his beloved wealth. This is during the rising action of this scene because a stranger has entered his chamber. Said chamber was locked so no mortal should be able to get in.
The king turned around and saw a hearty young man. The man had what seemed to be a golden radiance to him. This shows characterization because it describes the stranger.
The deity spoke and questioned what it was that the King truly desired, for surely he had gained enough wealth to be content? This is the beginning of a set of dialogue between the two. This conversation continues for the rest of the scene.
The deity then asked hesitantly “Well what is your wish? You are a noble king so I will grant you a favor.” The king thought for a moment with much concentration. This hesitation is an internal conflict in the king of more wealth or something different.
In a flash King Midas’s wish was granted and the god was gone. The irony is that you should never take a gods “gift” at face value, for they are more often more of a curse than a blessing. The theme is you should always be thankful for what you have and not be as greedy as Midas.
