I think this because the only problem they had other than the lights is they kept blaming each other trying to point out who doesn't belong. This shows that, if they worked together they probably would have gotten farther than they did. Because if they would've worked together and talked about it a little more they would've realized they were the enemy to themselves. Also the negative consequences was them running around screaming in the end, breaking windows, and getting wounded by the glass. They acted out of fear and ended up no knowing anything they wanted/needed to know.So in the end the main theme of The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street is blaming others and trying to find a scapegoat can lead to negative consequences.
