DID YOU GUYS DO THE HOMEWORK?
Zzz..
Uh.. What homework?
Let's hope Ms. Smith forgot about the homework
Huh...?
Title Slide
*lecturing* yadda yadda yadda
*asleep*
The kids are riding the bus to school and Jessica stayed up late playing video games so she is asleep. Jake didn't do the homework but Becky did (she shares it with him before getting to school).
Becky is still worried that her homework isn't perfect but Jake isn't worried at all as he knows that Becky is an A+ student. Jessica, however, never gets work done and is confused as to what Becky is so worried about.
*Becky and Jake* We understand the test!
Ms. Smith! I don't understand!
Encoding: While Ms. Smith is lecturing, Becky and Jake listen, take notes, and ask questions about the lesson so they can be prepared for the test. Jessica is still tired, so she sleeps. This is an example of encoding because they are paying attention to the lesson and learning the new information.
Storing: Becky and Jake study together, and although they invited Jessica, she doesn't come along and chooses to sleep at home. This is an example of storing information because they are reviewing the new chemistry information.
Retrieving: This is the day of the test and Becky and Jake are well prepared and understand everything since they studied. Jessica, however, is completely lost and has to ask Ms. Smith for help. This is an example of retrieval because they are retrieving the information they previously learned
