In this part of the story, it is the very beginning at the Duke's court when Theseus tells Philostrate to tell the people of Athens about Theseus and Hippolyta's wedding. Philostrate's announcement inspires them to help with the wedding in 4 days. This leads Quince and the other tradesmen to create a plan to perform Pyramus and Thisbe at the wedding.

This scene represents when Egeus comes to Theseus to discuss the disobedience of his daughter, Hermia. As this happens, Demetrius (Hermia's "Future Husband" is there and absolutely loves Hermia. But Hermia hates him and loves Lysander, who is standing next to Theseus, thinking of how he will run away with her. He plans to go outside of Athens to his Aunt's house to live happily ever after with Hermia instead of having her live under the oppression of the city.

But this might interfere with Lysander and Hermia attempting to run away.
