- Alfredo Salazar and his relationship with Esperanza. In the first part ofthe story, Carmen and Don Julian talk about Alfredo's decision not to marry Esperanza, even though they have been married for several years.Esperanza wants to get married in a month. Then Alfredo was on ceinvited to the house of Judge De Valle, and here he meets Julia Salas.

- In the story, Alfredo struggles against his destiny and the life and love situations he encounters. When he has to choose between difficult decisions in his life, he has to face the problem.

- He went with Don Julian to JudgeDel Valle's house. He met Julia Salas. He always called her Mrs.Del Valle, which embarrassed her. It became popular to visit thejudge's house. He then realizesthat despite being engaged toEsperanza, he is in love with Julia.

- Alfredo saw Julia in the plaza. He contacted her only to discover that Julia haddiscovered his marriage to Esperanza. Then he congratulates Alfredo. Alfredo is confused about his feelings because he thinks he is in love with Julie, but he cannotignore the fact that he was loyal to Esperanza. When they parted, he overheardEsperanza talking about her coworker who was with a man she wasn't married to. He expresses his displeasure, which Alfredo tries to deny. However, the argument turnedheated and Esperanza revealed that she really knew what happened between Alfredo and Julie. He told Alfredo to leave him and Alfredo had to make a choice.
- Julia did not want Alfredo to disrespect her understandingof Esperanza. She said goodbye. Alfredo went toEsperanza's house. And there the last word is said.
