As a toddler, Kennedy often wonders about her mother's past. The text states, " Where are you from, Mommy?" Kennedy asked her once during bath time. She was nearly four then and inquisitive"(Bennett 170). Kennedy is a curious child who tries to learn more about her mother. This bothers Stella and she feels attacked when she asks her questions.

Bennett portrays Kennedy's character as self-centered and haughty. We learn this from Jude when the text reads, " The pride was impossible to miss; she delighted in making others wait for her, sauntering through every held door"(Bennett 263). Kennedy lives with an ego due to her having advantages of wealth.

Kennedy takes an unusual action when she hears about Reese's conditions. After the hospital releases Reese, the text states, "For hours, she'd sat beside Jude in the waiting room, wandering down to the coffee for more coffee, or sometimes just sitting there, staring at the picture"(Bennett 331). Kennedy shows growth in her action by being selfless and staying for Reese and Jude.
