- Dear Diary, today this strange boy came in asking for some chun pei mui. It was our last one, but he saw it and grabbed it. How much for this? Cheek! He put the money on the counter and opened the packet straight away. Do you want some? He asked me. I didnt say anything. He went out of the shop but before he left he said See ya later. So strange!
- Dear Diary, that strange boy came in again today. Soong and Chuen must have told him my name because he came in and said Hi Silvey. That strange boy. Then he said Well, How are you? I shouldve told my name the other day. My name is Sun Tong, but call me Sunny. My Ba is Wong Cheok Kee. Know the fruit shop at the top of Cook St? Thats us. I didnt know what to say, so I just nodded. Well, I was wondering If you wanted to come to the pictures with me on Saturday. I didnt even know this boy! And he asked me out after one meeting?! I shook my head and said No thanks. His face went from hopeful to sad. Oh well, maybe some other time then. He said
- oh um.. no sunny. I am only 13! im not sure i want to get married even when im old enough.
- silvey. I am gonna miss coming in to see you. one of these days, when we are older, i want to marry you. will you wait for me?
- Dear Diary, Today Dai Gor woke up at 4:45 to go fishing with Sunny. Dai Gor asked me if I wanted to come, but the idea of Sunny being there put me off. Dai Gor said that when Sunny saw Dai Gor come by himself he said Wheres Silvey? I thought you said she was keen on fishing. Im not so keen anymore since Sunny will come probably next time too. Together they caught some piper and pakete fish which they split. Good catch!
- Dear Silvey, Today we arrived in Wanganui today. Mr Wong is still sick so I have to do more work in the shop. From Sunny
- Dear Diary, a letter from Sunny came in today. He drew a picture of his classroom, school hall and entraceway. at the bottom he had writen Thinking of you, from Sunny. I dont know what to do so I asked Ma. She said she feels bad for him and that I should write a letter back. Im not so sure about this.
- Dear Diary, Sunny came tonight bringing back the dishes that Ma put food on. He said thanks to Ma and Ba for everything they had done for him and his family. So when he left I walked to the door with him. Well Silvey, Im gonna really miss coming into the shop to see you. You do know that, dont you??. I had no idea what to say but my face was on fire. Anyway, he continued talking and said Well, when we're older, I want to marry you. Will you wait for me?. I just stared at him blankly. Talking about marraige plans, at 13? I shook my head HARD. No Sunny, im too young. I dont think I want to get married, even when im older. I said. Well, remember, When your way older, I asked you first. He went on. JUst wait until I tell Judy!
- Dear Diary, A letter from Sunny was all that was in the letterbox today. He has arrived in Wanganui. Mr Wong (his Ba) is getting better but still cant work, so Sunny is stuck working full time on his uncles market garden.
