The Greeks marched to the Pass of Thermopylae, a narrow road forming the only way through the impassable mountains. This road was fortified in the middle with walls and gates, from which the Greeks could base their defence.The only weak point was a small track, leading through the mountains and into the Greek camp.
Our men will go on the wall in the middle of the road. Use a phalanx formation, rotating the soldiers periodically.

The Greek army was made up of around 7,000 Spartans, Thespians, helots, Thebans, Phocians, and other men from across Greece. They held an advantage in their position on the difficult terrain.

Meanwhile, the vast Persian army, led by their king Xerxes I, arrived and encamped outside the pass. Their troops numbered between 120,000 and 300,000 men, with strong light infantry and cavalry.
