  • King Louis XIV called the meeting of the Estates General to discuss the problems of the three estates, First Estate, Second Estate, and the Third Estate. This is related to the the French revolution because any decisions made for the three estates would affect the revolution and it represented a step towards democracy since there were new taxes made that were more fair to everyone.
  • March on Versailles
  • We want bread !!!
  • After the Third Estate declared themselves the National Assembly, they moved to an indoor tennis court since they feared that the king would dismiss them at their meeting hall. There, they took their Tennis Court Oath. This represented a step towards democracy since they swore to never separate until they "established a sound and just constitution."
  • Reign of Terror
  • Put them under the guillotine!!!
  • The storming of the Bastille served as a symbol to the people of France representing years of abuse of the monarchy. When chaos had happened, the 800 Parisians killed the commander, but found no weapons. This riot served as a challenge to the existence of the regime, but was a day that France celebrated every year as their national independence day.
  • Rise of Napoleon
  • I, Napoleon, will now become the ruler of France.
  • When 6,000 women marched from Paris to Versailles, they demanded for bread and to see the king. However, most of their anger was towards Marie Antoinette since she was living most of her life in luxury. They agreed to return to Paris, but only if the king returned with them. He did and this represented a step towards democracy since they were able to make him go back with them.
  • Robespierre was one of the many chief architects of the Reign of Terror. Many were arrested and also died from the diseases that were in the prisons. Instead of an ax, Dr. Joseph Guillotin introduced the guillotine where its blade did the beheading. Members of the Convention turned on the Committee of Public Safety and arrested Robespierre . The next day he was executed and the executions decreased dramatically,

  • With the French Revolution going on, politicians felt threatened by all the chaos. So, they turned to Napoleon Bonaparte and planned to use him to advance their own goals. However, Napoleon would outsmart them and become the ruler of France.
