A rebel is someone who is rising in disagreement or against power. People often rebel because society is not offering they something they want. In the book, Little Fires Everywhere, Izzy’s intentions did not mean any harm to others, she only wanted to stand up for people who were being bullied. No one ever took her thoughts into consideration or took her seriously. Mrs.Richardson kicked Mia and Pearl out of her rental apartment without knowing the whole truth which upsets Izzy and is left with no choice but to be a rebel. Her actions are justified even if things she did were illegal. Despite being a rebel, Izzy is the hero of the book.
Introduction
Few weeks later...
Izzy stands up for one of her classmates, Deja, for getting bullied by the teacher. Her strong reaction toward the teacher was heroic because she was drunk and kept annoying everyone especially Deja becasue she was dark-skinned. As stated in the book, "Mrs. Peters shook her head again, her voice shrill over the single violin. "Deja. Down, up-up, down, up. Did you not understand me? You need me to speak in Ebonics?" It was at this point that Izzy had jumped from her seat and grabbed Mrs. Peters's bow" (Ng 77).
She disappointed her parents, but they had known that Izzy was capable of doing such things so they did not pay much attention. She rebled against her parents here but it was necessary otherwise Mrs.Peters woul have continued to harass students. As stated in the book, "Izzy had startled, but not surprised, her family by being suspended from school. In the middle of orchestra, she had according to the freshman vice principal, broken the teacher's bow over her knee and thrown the pieces in the teacher's face" (Ng 74).
Mrs.Richardson kicks Mia and Pearl out of her rental apartment without knowing the actual truth which upsets Izzy and takes a very big step.
Izzy wanted Mia and Pearl to be with her forever but her mother went against her without knowing the reality. She plans on setting the house on fire which is rebellious but fair because her mother needed to learn a lesson. In accordance with the book, "It was unfair, all of it, deeply unfair; that was one thought that had pushed through Izzy's mind all night. That Mia and Pearl had had to leave, that they'd finally made a home and now they had been driven away" (Ng 322). "She had spent the night planning and now it was time, she hardly thought at all... Their father always kept a can of gasoline in the garage" (Ng 323).
Izzy setting the house on fire is objective but biased. She never indented on doing something this harsh but was left alone to take such a decision. She leaves the house in search of Mia and Pearl, her attachment to them was incredible. In accordance with the book, "By the time she had finished in Moody's room, the can was empty... there was a whiff of sulfur and the tip flared bright, and Izzy dropped it onto her sister's flowered comforter and ran out the door" (Ng 324).
