- Hi! I'm Bruce Schneier. I'm going to use my friend Sam here to demonstrate the amount of data that is being collected on you and the mass surveillance that is currently taking place.

- Sam has some popular apps on her phone. They grant her a great convenience, able to connect with others and complete transactions. These apps contain information about her and people she connects with. Unknown to her, some of her personal information is being gathered by one or more data brokers.

- When Sam uses her phone and the apps, data broker companies like DataLogix, CoreLogic, and Experian collect data on her. This includes her name, date of birth, address, known associates, education and other information. This information usually will be sold to large corporation or a government agency such as the NSA.

- Turns out JuJu King, who is the ex-spouse of Sam's 2nd cousin, is on the NSA's radar for past crimes. The NSA determines that Sam is an associate and begin surveillance on her, her friends, and her family although Sam has no criminal history. Crazy, right?
