  • And it was in that clammy month that the H-G men took George and Hazel Bergeron's fourteen-year-old son, Harrison, away.It was tragic, all right, but George and Hazel couldn't think about it very hard.
  • That was a doozy, wasn't it?
  • I don't mind it, he said. I don't notice it any more. It's just a part of me.
  • They were burdened with sashweights and bags of birdshot, and their faces were masked
  • He is a genius and an athlete, is under-handicapped, and should be regarded as extremely dangerous
  • What Vonnegut is trying to say with this story is that inequality can be scary sometimes, especially for those who are on the negative sides of inequality. People who do not excel at certain skills, will be taken advantage of by the people who have those skills, and they do not have anything to use to fight back. Vonnegut also wants to highlight the kind of evil that the government can possibly be. When given all the power available to run people's lives, the government can possibly do very horrific things. The limits that the government puts on people in the story is horrendous. It is very inhumane to cover people's beauty, or to make people where bags so that they can be weakened to the point they are like everyone else. Governments, in the point of view from Vonnegut, can do very inhumane and barbaric things to the population if given the power to do so.
