  • Phuong Vo
  • Back in my days, people used to be equal and free.
  • Locke does think that there are no pros and cons to living in the State of Nature; because the State of Nature itself is chaotic and neither good nor bad. Different from Rousseau whom believes men are most free in this State, Locke believes men prefer the civilized society over the chaotic natural world.
  • According to Hobbes, the State of Nature is a state of constant war where everyone suffers, polar opposite from the peaceful State of Nature of Rousseau. Since every man is for themselves, they are in fact, equal and free, just not in the usual way equal and free works.
  • Unlike Locke who believes humans give up the chaos of the State of Nature to secure the comfort of civilization. Rousseau contrarily thinks that 'civilization' is what corrupts the once equal and free men.
