At the start of the scene, we discover a new character, Feste. He proposes Olivia, his mistress, to prove her that he is not the fool, but she is. He asks her why she is grieving her husband as he is in heaven, and so a better place than them. Olivia is impressed with this remark and thinks that he is getting better.
After this, Viola arrives at Olivia's house and asks to speak to her. After refusing first, Olivia agrees to see Orsino's messenger.
Viola tells briefly, why she is here before asking to speak privately to Olivia, This done, Viola exposes her text about why she should love Orsino. At the end, Olivia asks questions on Cesario's origins. Once Viola has left, Olivia talks to herself and we find out that she is in love with Cesario.
