- Exposition: Pastor Dave announces that there will be Family Camp, the church's main attraction, at Camp Katokwah during the summer. Tommy and Grace Ackerman, a broken couple, bicker on whether they'd go or not. Ultimately, Grace forces her husband to go in order to "spend time with family." Tommy, a workaholic, refuses to join them, but accepts after he cancels all work affairs. Tommy's children, Hannah and Henry, are reluctant to attend.
- Inciting Incident: Tommy forgets to make the final payment, so they are forced to share a yurt with the Sanders. Eddie, the patriarch, is a chiroprator who has helpedhis family win the grand trophy annually. His wife, Victoria, and two children, Eddie jr. and Barb, seems to portary the "perfect family" that Grace envisioned her family resemble. However, the two families are completely polar-opposite.
- Rising Action: The Ackermans are jealous of the Sanders, so Tommy decides to imitate their rituals to please his wife.The wives are able to sympathize with each other, while Tommy and Eddie develop a rivlary due to their family differences.The Sanders coinsidentially win at all the competitions. However, during a hike one day, he and Tommy are partners.
- Crisis: Eddie initially uses the restroom, but is extremely greedy and steals a honeycomb. This leads to Eddie and Tommy being pursued by a swarm of bees. However, after a long while, the two end up stranded and off the trail. They continue their rivlary, especially after Eddie consumes Tommy's lunch. Angered, Tommy discards Eddie's prized harmonica and leaves it for the animals to consume. However...Climax: Eddie leads Tommy to two ATV's. Tommy initially plans to escape using those vheicles, but a stray dart paralyses him. The two pass out and awake to find themselves tied by their favorite hunting show hosts, who accuse them of being theives stealing ATVS. The hosts reveal that their show was canelled due to the nonexistence of "bigfoot". Concerned about his father's safetey, Henry secretly escapes the yurt to find his father.

- Falling Action: Victoria reveals to Grace that Eddie is dominating her life and that there seems to be no way for her to have a say to him. Concerned, the women address their husbands' disappearence to the police. The police search for the men, but fail each time. Hannah seems to have concern for her parents and disregards anyone who does not. After a few hours, Eddie and Tommy escape their captors, thanks to an accidental explosion that Eddie caused while delaying their escape to find food. Henry is found safe and sound, but the fathers disband due to Eddie's confession about staging the entire stranding. He reveals that he knew their exact location the entire time, but Tommy angrily drives far ahead of him. They head back to the campgrounds safeley.
- Resolution: Eddie confesses and apologises to his wife, while Tommy and Grace make amends to each other. The families reconcille, and Tommy and Eddie end their rivlary after discovering the many things they have in common. and Eddie recieves the trophy for the 30th time. However, he admits to not being the "true hero" and humbly gives to trophy to Tommy, who accepts it with pleasure. Tommy gives a brief speech appreciating how family camp has improved his family life. As the film ends, Eddie and a worship leader sing the camp out.
