Hello! I was not able to attend Maths class yesterday. What was done in last class ?
Teacher started a new concept - Plotting of co-ordinate points on cartesian plane.
Please explain it to me.
Sure, it is simple and useful chapter.
So, what is a cartesian plane ?
Cartesian plane has two axis - X and Y which are used to divide complete plane into 4 quadrants so that the location of point could be correctly specified.
How is it useful in real life?
If we wish to plot different places on a sheet of plane, cartesian plane could be used. X axis and Y axis would be equivalent to the East-West and North-South directions and co-ordinates of points would represent location of different places relative to the reference point i.e. , origin.
This is interesting but we would require to set scale. I mean like 10km = 1cm or 20km = 2cm.
Yes, we would determine scales approximately for X and Y axis so that distances are correctly depicted on sheet of paper.
Would you please describe about terminologies - origin, co-ordinate.
Okay. Origin is the reference point in the cartesian plane where X and Y axis intersect. It divides the plane into 4 quadrants. Co-ordinates are represented as {X, Y) or for example (4, 3) which specify that the location of point is 4 blocks above the X-axis and 3 blocks from Y-axis in the upper-right side .
