Chapter 16 was a very eye opener for some of final chapters of Shipwreck At The Bottom Of The World. From after reading the chapter and taking in every single bit of key details shared with the reader, I have come with the conclusion that the main idea of Chapter 16 is to be careful with your routes and I say this because in the map that Shackleton drew up, its clearly shows that he and his crew members Worsley and Crean were very confused traveling.
Chapter 17 was a very short but also at the same time impactful chapter of Shipwreck Of The Bottom Of The World. What I mean by that is the crew of Shackleton, McNeish, Vincent, Worsley, Crean, and McCarthy were having troubles pushing up their boat which one of the factors having to be all of the members were tried with most of them very beat up and just in general tired, Crean was able to find a cave nearby the space where they try to push to boat and the crew stayed there to rest and cool off. I think the main idea of Chapter 17 The Cave is to never give up because Crean went to explore for any ways to help the crew out and she did eventually which shows determination.
As Chapter 18 The Alps Of The Southern Ocean wraps about up, I think from after analyzing all the information that the reader which is me has gathered, I can confidently say that the main idea would be trying to survive. According to the text, it states that "Shackleton called a halt for a meal" Now with this piece of text evidence, Shackleton is clearly showing signs of looking out for the crew and making sure they can still make it out alive after breating hard and sweatiing a ton.
