Setting - Scotland. Opens with 3 witches wishing to meet Macbeth (a general part of King Duncan's army) after the battle is over.
"Fair is foul and foul is Fair. Hover through the fog and filthy air.
The Captain informs King Duncan that Macbeth and Banquo fought courageously. King Duncan announces to Ross that Macbeth will become the new Thane of Cawdor.
Yes, as sparrows eagles, or the hare the Lion.
Dismayed not this our captains, Macbeth and Banquo?
Thou Shalt get kings, thou shall be none. So all hail, Macbeth and Banquo.
The witches reveal the prophecy to Macbeth and Banquo. The prophecy is that Macbeth will be ing while Banquo's children will be the next kings. Macbeth is curious/ambitious while Banquo is hesitant.
Stars, hide your fires; Let not light see my black and deep desires. The eye wink at the hand, yet that let be which the eye fears, when it is done, to see.
They all continue to praise each other. Duncan announces Malcolm to be the next king. Macbeth writes a letter to Lady Macbeth regarding the situation and invites Duncan to his place.
We will establish our estate upon our eldest, Malcolm,whom we name hereafter The Prince of Cumberland
Lady Macbeth is adamant to Macbeth as a king and the pair plans King Duncan's murder. Macbeth feels guilty and Lady Macbeth challenges his manhood to spur him into action. They murder King Duncan.
