Hey sis, I'm having trouble with what courses to pick for my Sociology program. Any recommendations?
Definitely Sociology of Health!
But why? It sounds boring.
Health is crucial to your learning as it happens all around you. Have you ever questioned a doctors order? Why society works the way it does? Who it benefits? How different communities have different socio economic status and the access to health care differs from one person to the next based on your race, where you live, your sexuality etc.?
Sociology of Health will help you think critically into matters of Health and how it affects you and everyone around you! You'll learn how gender, race, age, birth, environment all contribute to every individual's experience to health differently and how to think sociologically and apply an intersectional framework towards health! You'll also learn how Covid-19 exposes the true injustice and inequality that marginalized communities have been grappling with.
