  • King George issues a proclamation stating that colonists were not able to move/settle west of the Appalachian Mountains. This angered the colonists.
  • Tea Act (1773)
  • The Stamp act taxed items such as pamphlets, almanacs, playing cards, newspapers and legal documents in order to help repay the big debt left over from the war with France. It made colonists mad because they thought that it violated their rights as citizens.
  • Intolerable (Coercive) Acts (1774)
  • The Townshend Acts was an act passed by the British. It taxed tea, sugar, ect. This angered the colonists and they started to revolt against it. British troops then shot and ended up killing people as a warning.
  • Lexington and Concord (1775)
  • The Tea Act was a law that required all colonists to place their orders with a single firm and use the company's ships for delivery. This act did not impose a new tax on tea, but it did grant the East India Company a monopoly over tea sales in the colonies.
  • British government passed the Coercive Acts which strengthened the British's power in the colonies. Colonists got together and created the first continental congress to express their rights and independence.
  • To capture radical leaders John Hancock and Sam Adams. When spies learned of the plan, British General Thomas Gage led troops from Boston to Lexington, where they were met by 77 militiamen.
