- Brief introduction to self and PSA..... show face- Hi, my name is Charlie. Today I will be talking about human trafficking. I will explore what it is as well as a non profit organization called Children of the Night that works to stop human trafficking.
- Why does human trafficking happen and how do people get away with it-Human traffickers supply the people they want to traffick with fraudulent passports so they can travel across borders.-Human trafficking is usually a result of bad circumstances within someone’s country such as religious persecution, political conflict, lack of job opportunities, poverty, wars, and natural disasters.-The reason sexual exploitation is so prevalent in the human trafficking business is prostitution, pornography, child sex rings, nude dancing, and modeling all make a lot of money. People involved are oftentimes exposed to HIV, AIDS, and other STDs and diseases.-As far as forced labor goes, it is usually the result of peonage, which is the enslavement of people due to unpaid debts.
- Explanation of what human trafficking is- Human trafficking is a form of slavery in which people are transported illegally against their wills for labour, sexual exploitation, and financial benefits.- Humans of all ages are affected.-Approximately 1 million people are trafficked each year.-20,000-50,000 of those people are trafficked in the United States.-The United States is one of the largest sex-trafficking trade destinations of earth.
- How human trafficking works-The United Nations divides human-trafficking into three subcategories including labour, sexual exploitation, and organ removal.-The traditional human trafficking scheme involves recruiters seeking migrants usually in Southeast Asia, eastern Europe, and sub-Saharan Africa through the internet and other local contacts and giving them “business opportunities” that migrants think will better them financially. Recruiters usually target poor people. They usually also originate from the country they are finding people from. The “business opportunities” mentioned earlier involve false job opportunities and most people trafficked don’t know they’re being trafficked until it’s too late.
- What is being done to stop human trafficking - There are many organizations and charities working to end human trafficking and help refugee those who have already been human trafficked- Children of the Night is a privately funded non-profit organization established in 1979 with the specific purpose to provide intervention in the lives of children who are sexually exploited and vulnerable to or involved in prostitution and or pornography.- Children of the Night has sent recruited thousands of people, has been serving for over forty years, and has sent over one hundred kids to college- https://www.childrenofthenight.org/?gclid=CjwKCAiAnO2MBhApEiwA8q0HYR_BavAHOyYeFduZX_zaVgEjmA8lWxSyiFHzkiCV_8ERW8I10dHjLhoC8IgQAvD_BwE
