  • Amir and Farid arrived at Kabul and Amir is shocked to see how much his home city have changed.Themes: Social Organisation, Memory (minor)
  • On the way to the orphanage
  • Then, a taliban truck passes them by. Amir heart pounds and Farid warns him to never stare at them.

  • Friend, we are not with the Taliban.

  • When Talibans are gone and Amir comes out of the car, a begger he talks to says he knowed Amir's mother. They promise to see again next time, but it never happens.Theme: Identity (Amir and his mother)
  • Inside the Orphanage

  • There is Talib official. He visits once every month or two. He brings cash with him. Usually, he'll take a girl. But not always.
  • Amir continues his journey to find Sohrab and finds the orphanage in the northern part of Karteh-Seh. The buildings are old and the streets were flanked by little more than ruins of shelled buildings and abandoned homes.
  • When Amir first shows the polaroid (Sohrab) to the director of the orphanage, he says he does not know the boy. After ensuring that Amir and Farid are not with the Talibans, the director lets them in.
  • I come from Peshawar. . .Please open the door.

  • When the three men talk, Farid and Amir finds out what horrible things were happening in the orphanage. The director was selling the orphans to earn some money to feed the kids. There was also no choice for him. Talibans wouldn't have kept him still if he didn't obey. Theme: Social Organization
