We will also do a CT scan, which is a series of X-Rays used to make a cross section of the body tissues, and an ultrasound on your legs.
We are going to do an X-Ray and a V/Q scan. For the V/Q scan we are going to inject a radioactive tracer into your veins, but it will be harmless.
The V/Q scan that they did is short for ventilation qualification scan. This tracks blood and airflow through the lungs. This can help diagnose a pulmonary embolism, or a blood clot in the lungs.
V/Q Scan results
Perfusion (Blood Flow)
Ventilation (air flow)
This paper says that you have low arterial PO2 and PCO2, labored breathing, and low blood pressure.
Hmmm what does this mean?
Barbera most likey had a pulmonary embolism. Her V/Q scan showed a lack of blood flow, which would be inhibited by an embolism, or clot. Additionally, her arterial PO2, which is her oxygen partial pressure, and her arterial PCO2, which is the carbon dioxide in her blood, were both low. These are signs of a pulmonary embolism. The clot may have developed in her legs after the long period of driving.
Despite the pain in her left arm, her blood troponin-I and Blood Creatine Phosphate (CPK) levels were normal, ruling out a heart attack. If these levels were higher it would indicate damage of the heart. Therefore, Barbera most likey has had a pulmonary embolism.
