- S'right.It's a shell. I seen one like that before. On someone's back wall. A conch he called it .He used to blow it and his mum would come. Blow into it Ralph! We can call everyone!
- YAY!
- That's not fair!
- Sam,EricSam, EricHey why can't I come?
- He's not coming ! Three is enough!
- Piggy your job is to count names!
- This is a story of young boys surviving a plane crash in WW2 when their plane is shot down. There are no parents who survived and at first Ralph enjoys the fact he has total freedom over his actions while Piggy is unsure. They find a conch and blow into it to assemble all the boys who survived and wait patiently for the others to come.
- Out of the jungle they see boys emerging first a small boy and as more and more come the final group becomes a choir led by a boy named Merridew nicknamed Jack by Ralph which Merridew finds childish. Then when they settle down they elect a leader who becomes Ralph which makes Jack so annoyed however Ralph does let him keep in charge of his choir.
- Where's my glasses? Actually where is that mulberry boy?You silly children you lost the boy!
- Pretend nothing happened
- Nothing works! All the boys are partying in the lagoon and enjoying themselves. They were enthusiastic in the meeting but are not caring to do the actual work! And what do you do hunting all day without a single catch!
- After some time however Jack feels a shy liking in Ralph letting him keep his choir and then Ralph calls out to the crowd to say that Jack, Simon (another boy who is shy but courageous) and himself were going to find out if this is an island or isn't. Piggy questions to why he can't come but Jack shuts him out and under Jack's influence Ralph replies in the same way but less harsher.
- The boys want the meat and I will get it for them! We will have more success no matter what and when I do you will be happy that I did hunt!
- After they go into the jungle they see the beautigful expanse of the scenery around them but to their surprise see that they are stuck on an island. When they get back Piggy warns them that they may not be rescued and the whole crowd becomes silent. A small boy with a mulberry-colored mark on his face, who was frightened that a monster might be prowling the island, claimed that he saw a snake-like beastie the night before.The older boys tried to comfort him and said it was a nightmare. They agree that whoever has the conch has the right to speak and Ralph then agrees to have hunters.
- Ralph proposes that the group build a large signal fire on top of the island's central mountain.Excited by the thought, the boys rush off to do that while Ralph and Piggy lag behind. They use Piggy's glasses to make a fire but only blazes come and no smoke to indicate that they are stuck.The fire sets trees ablaze, their childishness results in the disappearance of the mulberry child and as they pretend nothing happens darkness unfolds.

- When Jack arrives back from hunting Ralph is annoyed since no boys are helping him build huts for the small ones and says that Jack uses hunting as a way of not doing the real work by pointing out that they haven't caught anything.Jack says they want meat and doesn't care for the little ones nightmares and they continue to fight while Simon enjoys his surroundings in the jungle.
