- Michael Faraday formulated the principle behind electromagnetic induction. It is a seminal breakthrough which laid the groundwork for later researchers such as James Clerk Maxwell, and led to important inventions such as electric motors, transformers, inductors, and generators.

- James Clerk Maxwell contributed in developing equations that showed the relationship of electricity and magnetism. He noticed that electrical field and magnetic field can couple together to form electromagnetic waves.
