  • Around 700 B.C.E., a Latin tribe built a city that was later named Rome. They constructed their village on a hill called the Palatine. Eventually, the city turned into a mighty city that spread over several cities and countries.
  • Etruscan influence of sports
  •  Amulius imprisoned the Princess that gave birth to the boys Romulus and Remus and Amulius sent them to be drowned in the Tiber River. While the boys were floating across the river a she wolf came and rescue the boys and raised them. Numitor their grandfather founded the boys and they helped him restore his throne from Amulius. After they restored their grandfathers throne they decided to build their own city but they argued about what the city should be called and they fought until Remus was dead and Romulus named the city Rome.

  • The Romans became great builders because they copied the Greeks style and made it their own. Two important Greek structures the Romans copied were the arch and the cuniculus
  •  influence of writing, art, and religion
  • Romans had two bloody Etruscan sporting events. The first was slave fighting. The Greek religion was to start slave fights during funerals.  In this sporting event, two slaves of the dead master fought to the death with swords and shields. After being congratulated, the winner was executed.
  • Temples like the Parthenon had statues and ancient symbols on the columns that added their beauty. The Greeks constructed marble temples as homes for their gods, while the Romans used concrete to build their temples. The Romans copied ideas from the Greeks and used different materials to build their city.
  • The Romans copied and altered the Greek alphabet into their own. The Romans brought the work of Greek potters into their homes because Roman artists imitated the technique, but developed their own style.
