- I invited you to our house on Christmas Eve to eat.
- This is important to the story because this shows the tie the narrator's parents invited the minister's family including a blonde boy which the narrator liked. In paragraph 2, it states, "When I found out that my parents had invited the minister's family over for Christmas Eve dinner,I cried." This shows the reason on why this event is important to the story.
- This event is important to the story because this is the family dinner with the minister's family before they arrived and how the place looked like. In paragraph 3, it states, "The kitchen was littered with appalling mounds ofraw food: A slimy rock cod with bulging eyes that pleaded not to be thrown into a pan of hot oil." This shows how the kitchen looked before the minister's family arrived.

- This event is important to indicate both families are having dinner. In paragraph 5, it states, "Robert and his family waited patientlyfor platters to be passed to them. My relatives murmured with pleasure when my mother brought out thewhole steamed fish. Robert grimaced." This shows this event is important to the story.
