  • Hiya! You might not recognize me, but I am used to represent what is known as frequency, or energy, on the EM Spectrum! I'm frequency, nice to meet you!
  • Thank you for that brilliant introduction, for I am wavelength! I am used to represent the distance between two identical points between two waves! Trough to Trough, or Crest to Crest!

  • Now, me and frequency share a very special relationship! Whenever a transverse wave has a high frequency (that's me!), it tends to have a longer wavelength! But a transverse wave with a shorter wavelength typically has more frequency!
  • That's right! Whenever the two points from two different Trough or Crests are close, that means whatever wave it is has a high frequency, and vice versa for those waves with a low frequency!

  • Some waves that tend to have a higher frequency, but a shorter wavelength include X-rays, the machines that doctors use to see through your flesh, Ultraviolet which can cause sunburns, so be extra carefully, and finally Gamma Rays, the most powerful of them all! These are used to treat cancer.
  • And other waves that tend to have a lower frequency, but longer wavelength include Radio waves, used for communication, Microwaves, used to cook food, Infrared, used for Wi-fi and remotes, and the visible spectrum, the spectrum that we humans can see with the naked eye!
