  • After independence the Hindus wanted one unified India.
  • I keep hearing from my neighbor about the Muslims wanting to separate. Honestly what's the point.
  • I don't get why. Can't we all just stick together. We'd be better off

  • Even if the Muslim majority areas split off there would still be a minority Hindu group in those areas and groups like the Sikhs would be unfairly split up. India would be better off economically if this split doesn't happen. The Muslims would suffer economically.
  • Nehru argued that it would be a bad idea to separate. That the Muslims weren't thinking of the impacts that would have.

  • In the end the Hindus did not get what they wanted. The countrywas split up.violence broke out between groups moving to or away from those areas. Hindus started attacking Muslims something Gandhi spoke out against.
  • Please don't harm each other. We all fought for independence together. They are our friends. We need to have religious tolerance
  • Eventually the fighting stopped and Gandhi was killed by a Hindu extremist who thought he showed too much kindness to the Muslims, seeing him as a traitor to Hindus and favoring Muslims. Now India has a Hindu and Sikh population separate from Muslim Pakistan
