- What kind of person is Troy? Troy is a hard worker but he is overly strict with Cory because of his past failures. He believes life is more about responsibility and not dreams.Troy tells Corey "Like you? I go out of here every morning bust my butt...putting up with them crackers every day...cause I like you?(Wilson 39)" This is the part of Troy where he believes responsibility is more important than affection.

- What effect do they have on others? All the anger and bitterness that Troy has with life hurts his relationship with Cory. Troys tells him "The white man ain't gonna let you get nowhere with that football noway.( Wilson 37)" This shows how the failures Troy had negatively affected Cory's future dreams and causes tension between them both.
