  • I used a J-shaped container and trapped gas on one end by pouring mercury. I observed and experimented a lot of times. I made a whole apparatus with my assistant!
  • Hello everyone! Today, we talk about Boyle's law. I am Robert Boyle, the man himself. The law was named after me.
  • Actually, there were 2 other scientists that theorized the same relationship between pressure and volume but I was the one who proved it!
  • P1V1 = P2V2PV = k
  • Boyle's law basically says that pressure and volume of a gas at constant temperature is inversely proportional. That means when one decreases, the other increases.
  • The equation for this is PV = k. k is for the constant temperature, P is for pressure, and V as you can guess, is for volume!
  • For the initial and final pressures and volumes, we use the equation P1V1 = P2V2. P1 and V1 being initial values and P2 and V2 being final.
  • To be exact, the statement is:  For a fixed mass of an ideal gas kept at a fixed temperature, pressure and volume are inversely proportional.
  • This has several applications. One of the more famous one is the breathing of a human body. Air pressure decreases as lung volume increases and vice versa
  • That is it for now! Till next time.
  • Aside from that, it is also applied in tires, hot air balloons, and so many more!
