  • Sabin (2022), informs us that manipulatives within a center can be multipurposed. In saying this they can be open ended and developmentally appropriate. Materials should be engaging for the children.
  • There is one more thing I would like some help with.Can you help me find an activity which would align with Friedrich Frobel's work?
  • I do believe, I now have a better understanding of how to promote play in my classroom.I have all the materials here to get that started.
  • Earlier we discussed Frobel's gifts and this included blocks. An activity I would do would within the class would be geared towards Mathematics and involved blocks as my materials.
  • Give each child a set of the blocks ask them questions to evoke their thinking process.1) What colours are the blocks?2) Would you say your blocks are big blocks or small blocks?3) How many blocks do you think you have without counting them?
  • After, have them sort the blocks by colour. Further question them asking:1) How many sets do they have now?2) How many blocks in each set?3)Which set has the most?4) Which set has the least?
  • I will also share some benefits of this activity with you. According to Essa (2011), all domains of development are supported through the playing of blocks. Using blocks promotes the learning of concepts such as classification, differences and similarities, matching. The use of language emerges as children discuss sizes and colours.
  • All the information I received from both you and Gina has given me a better understanding of Friedrich Frobel as a positive pioneer of play.
