One major theme of "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street" by Rod Sterling is that fear corrupts people. One example that supports this theme is when Steve and Charlie suggest they go to the police station together. At this time, they handled matters calmly and responsibly and they came up with a good solution because fear had not yet blinded them. Another example that supports this theme is when the people of Maple Street verbally attack and accuse Mr. Goodman.
