- "Hey, Alexis! You should come over to have dinner and meet my family, they'd love to finally meet you!"

- "Hey, JB. I'd love to, and I definitely am able to come to your championship game on Saturday."

- The main characters in Crossover are Alexis, JB, Josh, Crystal (mom), and Charlie (dad). The first major scene in Crossover includes three of these main characters. A new girl, Alexis, moves to JB and Josh's school in California. She soon caught JB's eye with her bright pink shoes and "sweet tea personality," as stated in the book. After lunch, JB decided to give Alexis a tour of the school to get to know her more. He learned that she plays basketball just like him and Josh.
- "Charlie, if you don't finally call the doctors I will! We both know you've been having chest pains and knowing that your father had a heart attack..."
- "I'm fine! I don't need a doctor, they just give you false information to make you pay more money!"
- After Alexis and JB got to know each other more, they soon started dating. Josh didn't love them dating because JB started ignoring him, skipping basketball practices, and basing his whole life around Alexis. Even though Josh didn't like them dating, JB invited Alexis over to dinner to meet his parents. The twins' dad, Charlie (Da Man) Bell, played basketball in college and was drafted for the L.A Lakes, but turned the offer down due to health concerns and their mom is the principal.
- "Dad fell when he was going up for a layup and now he won't respond! I'm scared what mom said about his heart problems might have something to do with it! Call mom right now!"
- "Josh, what happened! Is dad okay?"
- A bit further than halfway through the book, JB and Josh competed in the state championship game. Josh (middle) scored the winning point for their team. Their dad did a fantastic job coaching the team since he coached the Italian team that won Euroleague in the late nineties. Alexis was also there to watch JB and see the amazing win from the team.

- "I'm so sorry for your loss, Crystal. Chuck was a great man and will be remembered for his bright personality."
- Not long after winning the championship, it was Thanksgiving! While the family was all sitting at the table, the twin's mom revealed that their dad has health concerns relating to his heart. That is why he ended his basketball career when denying to play for the Lakers. However, Charlie refused to go see a doctor because he doesn't trust them.
- About three weeks after Thanksgiving, JB, Josh, Alexis, and the dad all went to the outdoor basketball courts. Josh decided to play one-on-one with his dad. Everything was going great until Charlie collapsed as he was going up for a layup. No one knew what caused the fall, but Josh was scared that it was related to the health issues that their mom had mentioned on Thanksgiving. JB quickly called their mom to get help and an ambulance.
- Charlie was quickly rushed to the hospital and the doctors concluded that he had a heart attack that day on the court. He had to stay at the hospital for exams, but after spending Christmas and many more nights with the doctors, Charlie Bell unexpectedly had another heart attack. This time he couldn't recover and sadly passed away. The Bell family was heartbroken but was comforted by friends and family. A funeral was held for him and hundreds of people showed up to remember his life and legacy.
