Hello! My name is Silver, but for short most people call me Ag. You can find me on the Periodic Table under the number 47.
My atomic mass is 107.8682 u. My density is 10.5 gr/cm^3
My melting point is 1,763°F!
My boiling point is 3,924°F!!! My isotopes are silver 107, and silver 109.
The configuration known as a pseudo noble-gas electron configuration, Silver forms a positive ion in this way.
I am a soft bendable, lustrous metal, and i shine in light.
I am stable in oxygen and water, but when i am exposed to sulfur i tarnish.
I am a noble metal with an inert chemical reactivity in its bulk form. Cannot react with HCL in bulk Ag form.
I react slowly with sulfur compounds in the air. (Ag2S) , which is a black compound, and the tarnish that develops overtime on silverware.
Some common compounds that I can be found in is silver bromide, silver chloride, and silver nitrate.
Archeologists have found me in objects dating way back to the Egyptian era. Even the Bible has many refrences of me in it.
My name dates back to the 12th century used to describe metal.
Some point in history humans discovered how to extract silver from its ores.
I can be found in any jewlery store, or in the U.S. mint. Almost everywhere. Me at my best can cost $534 per ounce.
