Laia's brother Darin is being taken away from her by a Mask which is one of the main conflicts in the story. Her grandparents were also killed by the mask.
XXIII: Laia
Cain was an Augur that have the ability to read minds and he had read Elias's plan to escape Blackcliff. Cain lets him escape but tells him he would regret doing so. Elias's decision would determine what will happen to him.
XXXVIII: Elias
The two protagonists Laia and Elias had met when Laia had to tell Elias and Helene to report to the Commandant. Laia and Elias see something special in each other that will spark a relationship between them.
L: Elias
Spiro Teluman had Darin as an apprentice who makes his weapons. He was very sorry when Darin got caught in his suspicious action. This gave Laia the fact that Darin wasn't working for anyone but Teluman himself. It is important for Laia to know what had happened.
The Trail of Strength made Elias and Helene fight each other. They have been friends since childhood and now have to witness the horrors of Blackcliff. Fortunate enough neither lost their lifes.
The three had concluded that this Empire must change. Unfortunately, Helene will obey the orders of the emperor. Now Elias will help get Darin out of a prison he knew about.
